Butcher Block Leader Boos & Co. Launches 11 New Cutting Boards

John Boos & Co., the country’s leading manufacturer of butcher block countertops, kitchen islands, tables, carts, and cutting boards. Every year the firm refreshes its product line by replacing slow sellers with new products that capitalize on current market trends.

Phoenix, United States - May 16, 2019 /PressCable/ —

This month Boos & Co. is introducing three new Paddle-Shape cutting boards crafted from 3/4-inch-thick slabs of Rock Maple, American Black Walnut and American Cherry; maple and walnut versions of a stylish, reversible 4-Cooks cutting board with beveled edges; plus, two unusually-shaped Artisan cutting boards.

The new Boos Paddle-Shape cutting board is 20 inches long and 5 inches across at its widest point. One end of the board tapers down, forming a narrow handle that can be gripped comfortably, making it perfectly suited for use as a bread, cheese or charcuterie board.

The new Boos 4-Cooks Reversible Cutting Board – available in small, medium and large sizes – features beveled, or angled, edges on both sides of the board, plus finger grips for easy handling.

Both new Boos Artisan cutting boards are 16 inches long and 10 inches wide at their maximums; and flat on one side and grooved on the other (for easy collection of the juice of meat or fruit, for example). But that’s where their similarities end. One board is egg-shaped, and the other is a trapezoid (a four-sided, flat shape with a pair of parallel opposite sides). Suitable for both preparing and serving food, these boards seem designed as much to provoke conversation as to make the cook’s job easier.

According to VP of Sales and Marketing, Ted Gravenhorst, Jr., “Boos & Co. strives to offer distinctive, top-quality products in every growing market niche. With these new products Boos now has entries in three niches previously ignored. The challenge was to develop differentiated products worthy of carrying the Boos brand name.”

This food services industry news update is presented by Butcher Block Co. – an online retailer specializing in butcher blocks as small as a cutting board to those large enough to cover a kitchen island.

Artisan keeps his craft alive with each carved mahjong tile

May 26, 2019

HONG KONG — Just opposite the entrance to a neon-lit night market, one of Hong Kong's few remaining carvers of mahjong tiles engraves the two Chinese characters for the number 8,000 on a piece of acrylic. With a knife in his right hand, Cheung Shun-king turns the tile with the other to cut into it. From time to time, he gently blows away the shavings. His is a dying craft in an era of mass-produced tiles for the table-top game, popular in southern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The 65-year-old artisan believes there are only three or four carvers left...
